WHAT IS A MONASTIC MASS?

A Monastic Mass in the tradition of the Society of Urban Monks is an integrative experience for persons involved in community service and who are committed to integrating their experiences of service into their spiritual lives. During the Mass, various spiritual practices become integrative tools that include the Examination of Conscience in the spirit of St. Ignatius of Loyola, Lectio Divina in the tradition of St. Benedict, monastic chanting and readings of psalms, the meditative singing of Taizé hymns, and other spiritual practices that culminate with the celebration of the Eucharist that further prepare us for community service.
